Introductory Flights

The VoWHGC offers you a choice of three experience flights all of which also entitles you to One Month’s Full Membership of the Club enabling you to use all the facilities of the Club, undertake instruction in the club gliders at normal club member’s rates on subsequent days.


Membership starts from the day you take your first flight. We hope that you will enjoy your month flying and decide to join the club as an Annual Member.


From just £105

All gliding experiences start with a briefing by one of our fully qualified instructors who will explain all of the safety aspects of your flight and also introduce you to the dual controlled glider and make sure you are comfortable. A tug plane will then tow you to the necessary height. Once you have released from the tow plane your pilot will invite you to take the glider controls or you can simply sit back and enjoy the ride while the instructor flies. If you like you can record the flight on your camera.

Standard

£105

A tug plane will then tow you to approximately two thousand feet. Your flight will last from 15 to 20 minutes, but please allow at least 90 minutes on the airfield. You need to arrive about 30 minutes before your scheduled flight time. 

Enhanced

£140

The enhanced experience follows the same procedure as the standard experience, but the glider is towed to three thousand feet above the airfield enabling the flight time to be extended to 20 – 25 minutes. 


This is the best choice if you think you may want to learn to fly or simply want an extended first flight.

Half Day

£300

The introductory gliding course provides one-to-one tuition for those who would like a more in depth experience.


This course is normally only available midweek and consists of 3 x 2500ft aerotows.

Trial Lesson Booking Form

No age is too old or too young to start gliding! Under 18s need parental consent. Under 16s must also be accompanied by an adult.



Due to the configuration of the gliders and controls, minimum height is 5’ (1.5m), maximum 6’3’’ (1.9m). Minimum weight is 7 stone (44kg), maximum 16 stone (102kg). For safety reasons you must be able to get in and out of the glider with minimal assistance – this is roughly equivalent to getting in or out of a bath.


All flights are dependent on suitable weather on the day. For obvious reasons we do not fly in conditions of rain, low cloud or strong wind.


If the weather on your day looks doubtful, please telephone us on 01793 783685 and confirm if we are operating. If not, we will re-book your flight for another day.
